What are pre-writing skills?

Pre-writing skills are the fundamental skills for a toddler/child to establish before they start writing. These skills allow a child’s to hold and use a pencil, write, draw, copy, and color. An important area of pre-writing skills is a child establishing pencil strokes that encompass directionality of letters, numbers and drawings. These skills are usually established in sequential order during different ages. These strokes include the following strokes in this order: |, —, O, +, /, square, \, X, and Δ.
